Update: Sadly, Plastic Parts called it quits in 2011, and the website has been closed.

A website is much like a billboard; it only has a few precious seconds to make its point. Powerful graphics and images are critical to engage the user and build interest. These strong visuals are coupled with simple, elegant interfaces that allow the user to browse through concise, organized content in the fewest possible clicks. Efficiency is key to creating statisfied users.

Everything you see when viewing the web—even much of the graphic content—is written in script or code. To most, it looks like jibberish. However, all of that information is formatted in a very specific way, to conform to a specific set of guidelines. Like all things on the web, these standards are constantly in flux. I go to great lengths to keep up on the latest changes, so I can write clean, standards-compliant code. This ensures that my sites appear the same to all users, in all browsers. It also means search engines have an easier time finding relevant information, which results in higher search rankings.

Part of  building a great site is making sure that everyone can access it. Elderly users, or users with disabilities may use aids such as screen readers, textile interface systems, or captioning. This entails a bit of extra work, but by designing for accessibility from the start it is ensured that all users will have equal access to the site.

I currently maintain more than 30 websites, including: informational sites, e-commerce storefronts, blogs, public outreach programs, and online surveys. Each site is tailor-made to incorporate the features my clients need. Some of the most commonly requested fuctions are: forms with validation and captcha, electronic mailing lists, integrated search functions, photo galleries, guestbooks, user databases, and recurring electronic newsletters.
